The McClean Vineyards Annual Joust at a Paso Robles ranch party at golden hour: an elderly grandmother in pearls and rhinestone sunglasses charges on horseback with a pool-noodle lance while her opponent, a deep-sea diver in a brass helmet, sits stranded on a Holstein cow that has stopped to eat grass. A baseball umpire officiates, a monk holds a scoreboard reading Grandma 3 Diver 0, mariachi heralds play trumpets, a Victorian gentleman commentates from a wooden booth, a pug squire carries spare pool noodles, a knight ignores the joust to share wine with a ballerina, and the grand prize trophy contains a live koi fish.
