Our Story

Same patio.
Same regulars. Every Tuesday.

A monk holding a glass of McClean red wine watches a nun mid-throw at hook-and-ring toss on the McClean Vineyards porch at golden hour — a French bulldog in a tuxedo on a stool, a Saint Bernard in a yellow raincoat with a barrel, a pug in orange, a scoreboard on the wall, and four real McClean wine bottles (Cabernet, One Last Syrah, Smug Ladybug, Two Pinots) on the table. Paso Robles vineyard rows and an Airstream trailer glow in the background.

The Founder

Steven McClean

Steven McClean didn't stumble into wine — he grew up in it. Raised on 14 acres of Paso Robles Syrah, the rhythms of the vineyard shaped his palate, his instincts, and his vision for what wine could be.

McClean Vineyards is the culmination of that upbringing — a small-batch label built on the belief that outstanding wine doesn't have to be stuffy, and that a great label can tell a story before the first sip.

Our wines are crafted in the heart of Paso Robles, one of California's most exciting wine regions. Bold, expressive, and built for the table — for the moments that matter, the toasts that linger, and the bottles that get finished.

McClean Vineyards

"Bold labels.
Bolder flavors.
A story worth telling."

— Steven McClean

The Philosophy

Wine That Earns
Its Place at the Table

The Labels

Every McClean label tells a story. From the evolution-of-man silhouette on One Last Syrah to the smug ladybug in yellow sunglasses, our artwork is designed to spark conversation before the bottle is even opened.

The Wines

We make wines that are bold, expressive, and honest. No pretension. No filler. Just 90+ point Paso Robles fruit at a price that makes every night feel like a celebration.

The Appellation

Paso Robles is one of California's most exciting wine regions — calcareous limestone soils, dramatic diurnal temperature swings, and a winemaking community that values craft over convention.

The Price

All four of our wines are priced between $18 and $22. We believe that outstanding wine should be accessible — and that 90+ points shouldn't require a special occasion.

Provenance

Estate Roots

Steven McClean grew up on 14 acres of Paso Robles Syrah. The land is in his blood — and in every bottle we make.

Identity

Bold by Design

We break from tradition with vibrant, story-driven labels that turn heads before the cork is pulled. Wit, soul, and zero apologies.

Craft

Small-Batch Quality

Every McClean wine is crafted in small batches in Paso Robles. Rated 90+ by Wine Enthusiast across the board.

The McClean Vineyards Harvest Games bobbing for apples competition on a winery crush pad with stainless steel tanks and bins of harvested grapes: a soaked golden retriever stands beside his huge pile of won apples, a sumo wrestler plunges into a barrel mid-splash, a nun competes with perfect form, a deep-sea diver stares into a barrel where a koi swims among the apples, a baseball umpire officiates, a monk holds a scoreboard reading Retriever 47 Everyone Else 0, a grandmother judge holds up a 10, a knight and ballerina share an apple, and a Holstein cow drinks from the last barrel.

Harvest traditions run deep. The retriever remains undefeated.

Paso Robles' calcareous limestone soils — the same geology found in Burgundy and Châteauneuf-du-Pape — give our wines their distinctive mineral backbone and chalky tannin structure. The dramatic diurnal temperature swing preserves natural acidity while the warm days build rich, concentrated fruit.
